Acid Kirk (Cédric Stevens) is one of the most singular figures to emerge from Belgium’s underground techno history. Active as a DJ and producer since 1993, he became known for a raw, uncompromising approach to acid and experimental techno, standing slightly apart from the more accessible trance-driven side of the Belgian scene while remaining fully part of its creative explosion.
Best known for intense releases such as the Psychonautic Experiments series and other material released during the 90s, Acid Kirk developed a sound built on distortion, machine pressure and mental tension rather than melody or easy peak-time release. His records and aliases pushed into darker, more abrasive territory, giving him a place among the producers who explored the outer edges of Belgian techno instead of its commercial center.
His name is also tied to the deeper infrastructure of the Belgian underground. Contemporary and retrospective sources place him within the wider orbit of artists such as D-Jack and Deg, while accounts of the period describe the BWP circle and related labels as a key influence on Belgium’s rich early techno ecosystem. Acid Kirk was part of that movement: less about profile, more about substance, experimentation and club credibility.
As a DJ, Acid Kirk also left traces in clubs and events that mattered to the harder Belgian circuit, including appearances linked to Montini and Cherry Moon in the mid-90s. That matters because it confirms what the music already suggests: Acid Kirk was not simply a studio project, but part of the living pressure of Belgian rave and club culture at a time when local talent shaped nights as much as imported headliners.
His later launch of Syncopated Elevators Legacy (SEL) in 1997 also points to a wider artistic ambition. Rather than staying locked inside repetitive club tools, he expanded toward a more personal and exploratory sound world, using homemade modular systems and pushing beyond conventional techno structures.
On BeatSessions, Acid Kirk represents the darker and more experimental side of Belgian electronic history — raw acid, underground techno and uncompromising machine music, preserving the spirit of a scene where innovation, intensity and risk could matter more than visibility.
