Description du set
In 2005, as the Belgian clubbing scene was clearly getting bogged down with retro House, and as our usual record stores were disappearing — along with easy access to new releases — the internet became a vital new source of inspiration. Internet radio stations, mainly Frisky, 1dotFM, and Proton, began broadcasting fresh productions and DJ sets.
This is how I first heard about Rick Pier O’Neil, also known as RPO. The track selection in his sets was absolutely remarkable. But what truly astonished me was discovering that his tracklists consisted exclusively of his own productions, released on his own labels — primarily RPO Records and Garbage Records.
The style, the rhythms, the ideas, the sounds... They were all my thing!
Since 2005, Rick Pier O’Neil has been the one and only producer to release such an extraordinary number of tracks, the vast majority of which are confirmed or potential bangers. I have long since stopped counting, but we are talking about at least one hundred exceptional tunes. This is virtually unheard of among many so-called big names, some of whom are held up as references despite having released only five or six tracks.
For these reasons, I consider Rick Pier O’Neil to be the most prolific contributor to the Techno scene! The Mozart of the 21st century! And even Mozart never released that many!
As a tribute to Mr. RPO, here is the live set I recorded at Long Play Bar in 2016.
